Winning 'The Extra Mile Award' - Our Visit to Combat Stress

Good evening all,

Just a quick update and news about our efforts in supporting Combat Stress.

I am very proud to inform you that we were recently contacted by them  to say the R100 Register had been nominated and subsequently won "The Extra Mile Award" for All Morgans' Day as Community Event of the Year during their awards night held at the Cavalry and Guards Club.

Frank and I were invited to attend a small presentation at their Tyhwritt head office in Leatherhead last week. We also had the opportunity to meet the team and tour the facility prior to the presentation.

Touring the facility was a real eye opener and certainly helped me better understand where our donations really go. Suffice to say it's very impressive.

In reality fairly small for the number of people it supports  and helps across the UK, but honestly we came away feeling every penny donated makes a difference.

There were a team of veterans on a residential course whilst we toured, one of them introduced us to a communal pet called Frank. It was a Bearded Dragon.

However unlike our Frank it doesn't own a Morgan or a camera, he was however very friendly and having never handled or been close up to a lizard before seemed quite a character and loved by the veterans.

Anyway that's it from me for now,

All the best.
Terry

Our Visit to Combat Stress

All Morgans' Day has just been granted the 'Extra Mile Award' for 'Community Event of the Year'.

Andrew Graham for Combat Stress said

"Community Event of the Year - This event has been running since 2016 at Blenheim Palace. It’s going from strength to strength and to date has raised over £27,000. We are thrilled to be taking part again in 2020."

Terry following me through Stubbington as we head for our M27, Foggy A3 and M25 Route which would take about 1,1/2 hours without any delays.

Terry's great shot of us passing through the Hindhead ( Devil's Punchbowl ) Tunnel on the A3.

On exit we dive back into thick fog for the second time. Cold Noses with the hood down.

The scene ahead of us as we pass through the Barrier Gate at Tyrwhitt House, Head Office and Southern Treatment Centre of Combat Stress.

The Main Building. Fund Raising Upstairs - Treatment over the whole ground area.

Hopefully The Combat Stress Car will be with us at Blenheim Palace on 7th June.

On arrival we were met by Joe Curl, Volunteer & Community Fundraising Officer,  who is our Fund Raising Contact and Joe introduced us to Treatment Manager, Heather who would be leading our tour of the facility.

We also briefly met Robert Marsh, Director of Fundraising, who was dashing away for a meeting in London but has promised to join us at Blenheim next year.

In the shade at the rear of the building we are introduced to The Koi Carp.

Beautiful Giants of the Fish World.

While we were introduced to a group ( or Cohort as they are known) of Veterans in therapy I did not take any photos.

This archive photo shows a a group making Poppies for relaxation.

"Tyrwhitt House is an overwhelmingly calm place. Serene grounds and quiet activity take the residents a world away from "normal" life."

It was Joe's pleasure to make the presentation to Terry of our 'Extra Mile Award' seen holding the Presentation box.

The award is a large Crystal Desk Piece embossed with the citation.

In its presentation box the words are much clearer

With the lowering sun we try to take some commemorative photos.

The Roadster 100, being our vehicle behind every thing that we do and for Combat Stress, Takes pride of place.

With only three of us available we take turn to receive the award.

I am a little 'trussed up' in my Morgan Coat but very warm.

Heather comes by again but we miss the opportunity of a group photo.

Before she leaves and we say our farewells to Joe, Heather promises to send us a photo of my namesake and the Veterans friend 'Frank', the Bearded Dragon.

A suitable poseur.

Frank happily spends most of his days inside the warm sweater of a Veteran or one of the Therapists there.

A very enjoyable, worthwhile and inspirational  day.

A Big Thank You to the Morgan Community everywhere who have supported The Morgan Centenary Roadster 100 Register's fund raising In Support of Combat Stress.

Frank
